Adjustment
Methods
Every doctor uses different techniques in their adjustments. The following are the techniques that Dr Edgerton and Dr Varga will use on you when you come to Edgerton Chiropractic Clinic.
The Gonstead Adjustment
- The focus of the Gonstead adjustment is to be as specific, precise and accurate as possible, addressing only the problem areas (areas of subluxation). Great care is taken to ensure a bio-mechanically correct position and precise thrust to provide the most accurate and painless adjustment possible. The goal of a Gonstead Adjustment is to restore and maintain optimal health by locating and correcting any interference to the nervous system caused by vertebral subluxation.
Diversified technique (DT) - DT is the most commonly used manipulative technique by chiropractors. Diversified is characterized by a high velocity low amplitude thrust. Diversified is considered the most generic chiropractic manipulative technique and is differentiated from other techniques in that its objective is to restore proper movement and alignment of spine and joint dysfunction.
Thompson Drop Technique - The patient lies on a special table with sections that drop down. The chiropractor applies a quick thrust at the same time the section drops. The dropping of the table allows for a lighter adjustment without the twisting positions that can accompany other techniques.
Modalities
Dry Hydrotherapy provides the
therapies of whirlpool, heat, and massage in a
single system without the inconvenience of getting
wet.
Decompression
Traction Therapy uses a computerized program with
specific times and weights used for each
individual. Most importantly, it uses a procedure
called ramping, which slowly
introduces the traction effect to the spine. In
this manner the procedure can override the
body’s natural defense mechanism of tightening
the muscles in response to the external pulling.
This causes a wider spacing of the vertebral
discs, which in turn creates a negative pressure
(decompression) on this area. Bulging disc
material can actually be pulled back underneath
the vertebra and off the spinal cord or nerves
they are irritating. Degenerative discs that
have lost their height can be opened up to near
normal heights, creating increased movement and
decreased nerve pressure.
Massage Therapy
Therapeutic massage involves
the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of
the body to prevent and alleviate pain,
discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress; and, to
promote health and wellness. Massage therapy
improves functioning of the circulatory,
lymphatic, muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems
and may improve the rate at which the body
recovers from injury and illness. Massage
increases circulation, relieves stiff joints and
muscle tension, increases range of motion,
relieves pain from some forms of paralysis,
sciatica, fractures, sprains, headaches and
overworked muscles, reduces stress, helps prevent
future pain and injuries and improves sleep
patterns.
Therapeutic Massage is one of
the best compliments to chiropractic care.
Because muscles are attached to bones and joints
it is very important for them to be relaxed and
stretched to aid in adjustments to the skeletal
system. Proper alignment helps to ensure the
free flow of nerve impulses and circulation of
blood and lymph.
Benefits of Massage with
Chiropractic Care:
Massage Modalities Offered:
Swedish
Massage is relaxing the entire body which is
accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long
gliding strokes in the direction of blood
returning to the heart. Additional
techniques include circular pressure applied by
the hands and palms, firm kneading,
percussion-like tapping, bending and stretching.
Swedish massage is exceptional for increasing the
level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle
toxins, improving circulation and flexibility
while easing tension.
Deep
Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper
connective tissues and muscle groups, relieving
much stress and pain. This
therapy warms and spreads the fascia surrounding
the muscles to enhance freedom of movement. Deep
tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage but
is used to target knots and release chronic muscle
tension. Other benefits include reducing
inflammation and helping to eliminate scar tissue.
The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle
tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer
surrounding muscles, bones and joints).
Trigger
Point Therapy is direct pressure which is
applied to painful, contractual
knots/hyperirritable spots in muscles to release
the knot and relieve the associated pain. A
trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue
that causes pain in other parts of the body.
A trigger point in the back, for example, may
trigger pain in the neck. The neck, now
acting as a satellite trigger point, may then
cause pain in the head. Trigger points are
caused by muscle overuse or injury.
Hot
Stone Therapy melts away tension, eases muscle
stiffness, and increases circulation and
metabolism. Our professional massage therapists
then incorporate a customized massage, with the
use of hot stones, to create a healing and
relaxing experience. Hot Stone Therapy is ideal
for muscular aches, back pain, stress and anxiety,
poor circulation, rheumatic and arthritic
conditions, insomnia, depression, and
fibromyalgia.
It provides deeper muscle and tissue
relaxation, which in turn releases more toxins and
improves circulation.
Prenatal
Massage - Massage during pregnancy
offers undeniable physical benefits. It stimulates
the lymphatic system, increasing immunity and the
removal of excess toxins, while also stabilizing
hormonal levels and balancing the glandular
system. Hormonal changes can cause depression and
anxiety during pregnancy, which is why many
expecting mothers can find relief with prenatal
massage.
It
is very important you obtain approval from your
obstetrician before receiving any form of massage
during pregnancy. Women with normal, low-risk
pregnancies can benefit greatly from massage,
however, women in high-risk pregnancies should
consult with their doctor or midwife before
receiving massage.
Geriatric
Massage
encompasses basic relaxation and stress relief.
It’s also a beneficial tool in fighting many of
the symptoms of aging.
It helps to increase blood circulation,
combat depression, improve balance and
flexibility, reduce the pain of arthritis,
increase joint mobility, improve posture, improves
sleep and encourages overall well-being.
